Evelyn A. Knoop, 86, Dies in Oswego County, New York

Evelyn A. Knoop, an 86‑year‑old resident of Scriba, Oswego County, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 26, 2026. Born in Oswego on January 15, 1940, she worked as a secretary for General Electric in Syracuse, then for the Earth Science department at SUNY Oswego, followed by a stint with Johnson Control on the former Miller Brewery project in Fulton. Later she spent many years in the insurance sector with Haylor, Fryer and Coon and the Fitzgibbons Insurance Agency, and briefly returned to clerical work for Laborers Local 214. Knoop was an avid bowler, camp enthusiast, mystery‑novel reader, and devoted fan of SU basketball. She is survived by her daughter Michele “Shelly” Knoop‑Kocher, two granddaughters, three great‑grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, three sisters and a niece.
