Evelyn Valdez family seeks justice after fatal Wynwood police shooting

The family of Evelyn Valdez, a 28-year-old woman killed by police gunfire in Wynwood, met with the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office to seek criminal charges against the officers involved. The incident occurred on June 14, 2025, during a bar brawl that spilled into the street. Miami Police Sergeant Javier Herbello and Officer Dorian Acosta fired shots at an armed man, Norman Lindo Jr.; while Lindo was killed, a bullet also struck Valdez in the torso as she sat in a parked vehicle.

Valdez's attorney, Ramon Rasco, alleges the officers acted recklessly by firing approximately eleven or twelve shots into a crowded street during peak nightlife hours. A federal civil lawsuit further claims the officers fired at an angle across the street without warning and that there was a significant delay in transporting Valdez to the hospital.

Following the meeting with prosecutors, the family expressed doubt that the officers will face prosecution, though a final decision from the State Attorney's Office is expected in the coming days.
