Evelyn Zupke calls for aid for GDR forced doping victims

Evelyn Zupke, the Bundestag's commissioner for victims of the SED, is calling for permanent financial assistance for victims of forced doping in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR). Zupke noted that many individuals were exploited by the state as minors for competitive sports and continue to suffer from severe health consequences.

Zupke has urged the legislature to introduce a draft law this year to establish clear legal regulations and monthly financial support. She also emphasized the need for greater attention toward other persecuted groups, including those targeted under the ‘asocial paragraph’ and women and girls who were mistreated under the guise of gynecological treatments.

Furthermore, Zupke stated that large corporations that profited from the forced labor of political prisoners in the GDR have a responsibility to address this history. She mentioned that she is currently in discussions with the company Otto regarding this matter.
