Evening Diet and Post‑Meal Walking Improve Sleep and Blood Sugar

Experts advise that certain foods eaten in the evening can disturb sleep. Highly salty snacks, spicy dishes, foods rich in tyramine (such as aged cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms, soy sauce and red wine), sugary treats and late‑night meals can raise blood pressure, body temperature, heart rate or glucose levels, making it harder to achieve deep, restorative sleep. Recommendations include avoiding these items after dinner, finishing meals at least two to three hours before bedtime, choosing light, easily digested foods and using calming herbal teas.

A separate health recommendation highlights that a short, gentle walk after meals helps regulate blood‑sugar spikes. Walking improves insulin utilization, lowers post‑prandial glucose levels and reduces the risk of diabetes‑related complications. Consistency of the activity matters more than intensity, and the advice aligns with general physical‑activity guidelines that encourage regular movement throughout the day.
