Summer family festivals and markets launch across the Netherlands and Belgium
From mid‑July to early August a series of children‑focused festivals, fairs and market events are opening in Dutch and Belgian towns. In Nijmegen the Kidsplein at Mariënburgplein runs from 12 to 15 July with science experiments, escaperooms and performances for children aged 3‑12, organised by local cultural institutions and universities. On 21 June Haaksbergen’s Zwembad De Wilder hosted “Zed’s Birthday”, a large‑scale free children’s party featuring water play, trampolines, a silent disco and food stalls.
In the Netherlands Bibliocenter offers a free summer programme of challenges, reading sessions and creative workshops at various branches throughout July and August. The youth centre Loods3930 in Hamont‑Achel (Belgium) runs a summer schedule of games, water activities and evening events from late June through August. Belgian towns also host traditional fairs: Grobbendonk’s kermis runs 1‑5 August with rides, live music and a “prikkelarm” (low‑stimulus) session, while the Groenlaan evening market in an unspecified Belgian locality is set for 3 July with stalls, food trucks and a live performance by Stijn Vande Wijn. In France, the town of Achères will hold an evening market on 3 July showcasing local artisans and food producers. These events aim to provide free or low‑cost entertainment for families and promote local culture and community participation.
