Evening meal timing impacts metabolic and cardiovascular health

Scientific evidence regarding chrononutrition suggests that the timing of evening meals plays a significant role in cardiometabolic health and weight management. Because the body follows a circadian rhythm, metabolic functions change throughout a 24-hour cycle. During the evening, insulin sensitivity typically decreases and digestion slows down.

Consuming large meals late at night or immediately before sleep can lead to lower glucose tolerance and prolonged presence of fats in the bloodstream. Furthermore, late-night digestion may interfere with the natural nocturnal drop in blood pressure, which normally serves as a protective mechanism for the cardiovascular system. To support metabolic balance and vascular function, experts suggest maintaining an interval of at least two to three hours between the end of a meal and bedtime.
