Event Horizon Telescope maps magnetic fields around black holes

The Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) has extended its pioneering work beyond imaging the shadow of the M87 galaxy’s supermassive black hole to produce the first picture of Sagittarius A*, the Milky Way’s central black hole. New analyses of polarized light from these observations have mapped intense magnetic fields that spiral around the event horizons, revealing how black holes channel energy into powerful jets that can influence star formation across thousands of light‑years.

These observational breakthroughs also intersect with long‑standing theoretical puzzles. Recent theoretical studies suggest that information swallowed by a black hole may be encoded on its horizon and gradually released through quantum processes, offering a possible resolution to the black‑hole information paradox and supporting ideas such as the holographic principle.
