Everest: The Other Side documentary premieres at Venice Film Festival

The documentary “Everest: The Other Side,” directed by Oscar-winning filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin, has made its world premiere at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Produced by National Geographic Documentary Films and Walt Disney Studios, the film follows elite ski mountaineers Jim Morrison and Hilaree Nelson as they attempt to climb and ski the direct North Face of Mount Everest, a feat never before accomplished.

The film explores the personal relationship between the two athletes and the profound grief following the death of Hilaree Nelson, who was killed in an avalanche on Manaslu in 2022. The narrative follows Morrison as he seeks to fulfill their shared dream and honor her legacy.

Following its premiere in Venice, the documentary is scheduled to screen at the Telluride, Toronto, Camden, and BFI London film festivals. It is slated for a worldwide theatrical and IMAX release on October 30, 2026.
