Everett and Community Transit to host open house regarding potential merger

The City of Everett and Community Transit have announced an open house for next Tuesday to gather public feedback regarding a potential merger of their transit networks. The proposal involves Community Transit replacing Everett Transit, which proponents suggest would increase operational efficiency and expand bus service frequency and routes.

However, the merger would result in a significant sales tax increase for Everett residents, raising the rate from 0.6% to 1.2%. While supporters argue the expansion is necessary for a growing population, opponents—including the Everett Transit drivers' union—have expressed concerns regarding the tax burden and the potential loss of local control.
