Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC recalls broccoli sprouts due to Salmonella outbreak

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has linked a Salmonella outbreak to broccoli sprouts produced by Evergreen Fresh Sprouts LLC. The outbreak has sickened 22 people across four states: Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Utah. While no deaths have been reported, two patients in Washington required hospitalization.

The recall involves broccoli sprouts packaged in plastic bags or clamshell containers with expiration dates of Sept. 7, Sept. 9, Sept. 11, Sept. 14, or Sept. 16. These products were distributed to grocery stores, restaurants, food cooperatives, and individual customers.

Investigators found a strong connection between the illnesses and sprout consumption, noting that 17 of 19 interviewed patients specifically reported eating broccoli sprouts. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises consumers to discard any recalled products and thoroughly clean any surfaces or utensils that may have come into contact with them.
