Everson discusses VAR controversy in Arrascaeta goal

Atlético-MG goalkeeper Everson has revisited a controversial goal scored by Arrascaeta during the 2022 Copa do Brasil round of 16 match against Flamengo. In an interview with Charla Podcast, Everson expressed his conviction that the ball did not fully cross the goal line.

During the second leg at the Maracanã, the assistant referee signaled a goal, which was subsequently reviewed by VAR official Wilton Pereira Sampaio. Everson stated that the VAR decision was to uphold the on-field call because there were no conclusive images to prove the ball had crossed the line.

Flamengo won that match 2-0, with both goals scored by Arrascaeta, allowing them to advance to the quarterfinals with a 3-2 aggregate score. The result overturned Atlético-MG's 2-1 lead from the first leg.
