Everton forward Martin Sherif fined for betting rule breach
Everton forward Martin Sherif has been fined £5,000 by the Football Association (FA) for breaching betting rules. The 20-year-old admitted to causing, permitting, or enabling 61 football bets through accounts in his name between November 20, 2024, and February 12, 2026.
Sherif, a Netherlands youth international born in Liberia, stated that he did not personally place the bets, which totaled nearly £2,000, but acknowledged they were made using accounts registered in his name. An independent regulatory commission decided not to impose a playing suspension, citing his prompt admission of guilt, cooperation with the investigation, and “genuine remorse.”
Sherif joined Everton’s academy in 2019 and has spent time on loan at Rotherham United and Port Vale, though he has yet to make a senior debut for Everton.
