Every Dollar Counts Act seeks to credit out-of-pocket prescription spending

Proposed healthcare reforms aim to increase affordability by allowing consumers to receive credit for out-of-pocket prescription spending toward their insurance deductibles and annual maximums. Currently, many health plans do not recognize spending on medications purchased through cash-pay options, even if those options are cheaper than traditional insurance copays.

The Every Dollar Counts Act, introduced by Representative Greg Murphy, seeks to address this by requiring that out-of-pocket spending on covered prescription drugs counts toward a consumer’s deductible and out-of-pocket maximum, regardless of where the medication is purchased.
