A series of earthquakes with magnitudes ranging between 4.0 and 4.3 on the Richter scale have been recorded in the northern Evia region of Greece between September 18 and 19, 2026. The seismic activity, which included tremors near Prokopio and Vasilika Istrias, was felt widely, including in Attica and Athens.

Seismologists from the Geodynamic Institute are monitoring the ongoing sequence. Euthymios Lekkas, President of OASP, has provided reassuring statements, noting that while the area shows increased seismic activity, it is not accustomed to significantly larger magnitudes. He emphasized that the current events are being closely watched to determine if a mainshock has occurred or if these are part of a continuing sequence.

No immediate reports of injuries or significant structural damage have been confirmed following the recent tremors.
