Evia man loses 89,000 euros in cryptocurrency scam

A 69-year-old man in Evia, Greece, has lost 89,000 euros to a sophisticated cryptocurrency investment scam. The perpetrators gained the victim's trust by inviting him to a closed study group and using a platform that initially displayed realistic-looking financial data and virtual profits.

To establish credibility, the scammers misappropriated the logo of the American banking institution J.P. Morgan and referred to victims as ‘VIP nuclear members.’ The fraudulent platform promised returns as high as 1,600%, with the victim's dashboard showing projected earnings of up to 1.7 million euros.

The scam escalated when an individual posing as an assistant, ‘Diana,’ requested an 8% service fee to release the supposed profits. The victim has since contacted his bank to contest the transactions, and authorities are currently conducting a preliminary investigation to trace the digital footprints of the perpetrators.
