Evil Geniuses to cease all esports operations

Evil Geniuses (EG) has announced it will cease all competitive and day-to-day operations, effective November 2. The decision marks the end of more than 25 years of involvement in the esports industry.

CEO Chris DeAppolonio cited significant industry headwinds as the primary cause for the closure, specifically noting limited sponsorship opportunities and the increasing costs of competing at the highest levels. Despite efforts to stabilize the business through expansion into new titles and growing a creator roster, the organization concluded it could not be operated responsibly in the current economic environment.

The shutdown follows the announcement of the final VCT Americas partnership spot, which left no room for EG as a partnered organization for the 2027 season. The organization, which was the first North American team to win an international Valorant trophy, will work to wind down operations in an orderly fashion. While all players are free to discuss opportunities with other organizations immediately, Valorant players and coaches will officially become free agents when the 2026 season concludes on November 2.
