Evita Nursanty calls for local labor priority in industrial zone regulations
Evita Nursanty, Vice Chair of Commission VII of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has emphasized the need for the upcoming Industrial Zone Bill (RUU Kawasan Industri) to address real-world challenges. During a visit to the Greenland International Industrial Center (GIIC) in Bekasi Regency, she argued that industrial zones must evolve beyond being mere locations for factories to becoming comprehensive economic ecosystems that benefit local regions and communities.
A primary focus of the proposed regulation is the prioritization of local labor. Nursanty suggested that companies within industrial zones should be mandated to hire from the surrounding community first. If local residents lack the necessary skills, she proposed that vocational education and training programs be implemented to bridge the competency gap, citing the Deltamas industrial zone as a successful model for human resource development.
Additionally, Nursanty highlighted the importance of security within these zones. She stated that security should not be the sole responsibility of industrial zone managers but must involve the cooperation of local governments and the police to ensure stability and support regional economic contributions.
