EVNNPT and EVNNPC accelerate power grid projects in Northern Vietnam
Vietnam's National Power Transmission Corporation (EVNNPT) and Northern Power Corporation (EVNNPC) are accelerating efforts to expand the power grid to meet rising electricity demand in Northern Vietnam.
EVNNPT leadership recently inspected the 220 kV Than Uyen - 500 kV Lao Cai transmission line project. The 74.58 km line includes 160 tower positions, with 114 positions already handed over for site clearance. While construction is underway, the project faces challenges regarding forest land procedures, site clearance, and heavy rainfall.
Simultaneously, EVNNPT and EVNNPC held a coordination meeting to address the high load pressure in the North, where peak capacity recently approached 30,000 MW. Regions such as Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, and Phu Tho face risks of local overloading. In Bac Ninh, peak capacity is projected to increase significantly, leaving almost no power reserve. To mitigate this, key projects like the 500 kV Bac Ninh substation are targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2027.
