Evo Morales leaked audio features conversation with former aide
Leaked audio recordings have surfaced featuring a conversation between former Bolivian President Evo Morales and his former aide, River Covarrubias. Covarrubias, a former army captain currently serving a 15-year sentence for the aggravated rape of a minor, is incarcerated at the San Pedro prison in La Paz.
In the recordings, Covarrubias expresses continued loyalty to Morales and discusses potential political shifts for the country in 2026. Morales responds by acknowledging the support and suggesting that those close to Covarrubias believe his legal proceedings are politically motivated.
The audio also includes Morales reflecting on the events of November 11, 2019, when he resigned from the presidency. Morales claims that during the crisis, he contacted military commanders Williams Kalimán and Gonzalo Terceros, instructing them to “not shoot at the people” (no metan bala al pueblo) to avoid casualties during the social unrest.
