Evonik invests 80 million euros in Slovakian biotechnology plant

German chemical group Evonik has launched a new investment project at its Evonik Fermas plant in Slovenská Ľupča, Slovakia. The project, valued at approximately 80 million euros, aims to expand the facility's biotechnological capacities and its ability to perform contract manufacturing of active ingredients for the pharmaceutical industry.

The investment involves integrating new technologies into existing halls, specifically focusing on equipment for the downstream processing of fermentation products. The project is expected to be completed by the beginning of 2028 and is projected to create around 50 new qualified jobs.

This marks another significant investment for the site; four years ago, the company invested over 100 million euros into the industrial production of rhamnolipids. In total, Evonik has directed more than 180 million euros into the Slovenská Ľupča plant in recent years. The new production line is intended to produce organic molecules for use as safe dyes in technical, food, and cosmetic applications, as well as proteins designed to replace animal-derived sources.
