Evrytania: Poachers kill protected chamois on public road
Poachers shot and killed a protected herd of chamois on a public road in Evrytania, Greece, on Sunday morning. The incident occurred around 08:45 on the Tornou–Prousos road, a route frequently used by visitors to the historic Prousos area.
A driver traveling through the area narrowly avoided being hit by gunfire. The witness reported that the shooting took place just 5 to 6 meters in front of his vehicle, prompting him to brake immediately after hearing the first shot. The driver noted that had he been traveling faster, he could have been caught in the line of fire, potentially causing his vehicle to plunge into a nearby ravine.
The perpetrators, described as a group of hunters, fled the scene as soon as they were noticed. Following an unsuccessful attempt to contact the Forestry Service, the witness filed an official complaint at a local police station.
