Evy Kalogiroupoulou reflects on her bond with Giorgos Mazonakis

Director Evy Kalogiroupoulou has shared reflections on her close personal and professional relationship with the late artist Giorgos Mazonakis. Speaking on MEGA, she described him as a deeply kind and supportive individual who stood by her through both personal and professional challenges.

The two had a significant creative bond, notably collaborating in 2022 on the award-winning short film ‘On the Throne of Xerxes’, where Mazonakis played a central role. Although they had experienced periods of distance in the past, Kalogiroupoulou noted that they had reconnected closely over the last year, maintaining near-daily communication.

Kalogiroupoulou revealed that she had last seen him at a restaurant just a few days before his passing. She recalled his character as being exceptionally generous and protective of his friends, sharing an anecdote where he encouraged her to be open about their friendship during times of media scrutiny.
