EWTN celebrates growth as the world's largest Catholic media network
The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) is celebrating its anniversary as the world’s largest Catholic media network. Founded by Mother Angelica, the network began in 1973 through her books, talks, and early television appearances. What started from a garage studio has expanded into a global presence reaching over 435 million television households across more than 160 countries and territories.
Over the decades, EWTN has significantly expanded its journalistic reach through strategic acquisitions, including The National Catholic Register in 2011, and the Catholic News Agency and its Spanish-language counterpart, ACI Prensa, in 2014. The network now provides news in multiple languages, including English, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese, French, and Arabic.
To unify its various branches, EWTN announced a rebranding effort in 2026 to bring its print, digital, and broadcast entities under the consolidated EWTN News brand. The organization’s ecosystem includes EWTN Studios, EWTN Digital, EWTN Radio, and EWTN Publishing.
