Ex-Capcom manager criticizes Resident Evil Code: Veronica

Miguel Corti, a former Capcom executive who held various global production roles starting in 2007, has criticized Resident Evil Code: Veronica for negatively impacting the franchise's identity. In a series of posts on BlueSky, Corti argued that the 2000 Dreamcast title caused the series to lose its survival horror roots, paving the way for the action-oriented direction seen in Resident Evil 5 and 6.

Corti noted that while many developers consider Code: Veronica one of the best entries prior to Resident Evil 4, he believes it lacked a clear sense of direction by attempting to pack too many locations and narrative threads into a single disc. He also criticized the game's cinematic tone, describing the opening sequence as an imitation of action films like Die Hard and John Woo, rather than a horror experience.

These comments arrive amid renewed interest in the title due to reports of a potential remake, which follows a successful period of remakes for the franchise.
