Ex-councilor Rafael Mayer Haro dies in La Libertad road accident

Rafael Mayer Haro, a 50‑year‑old former councilor of Otuzco in Peru’s La Libertad region, was killed on 5 August when the vehicle he was driving left the road and fell about 200 metres into a gorge in the Diablo sector of Huamachuco district, Sánchez Carrión province. The accident, which authorities suspect involved excessive speed and the driver falling asleep, occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. His 18‑year‑old son, who was a passenger, suffered injuries and was taken to Leoncio Prado Hospital. Local police and emergency services retrieved the body and secured the scene while an investigation into the exact cause continues.
