Ezequiel Cirigliano arrested after attempting to seize police weapon

Ezequiel Cirigliano, a 34-year-old former professional footballer for River Plate and Atlético Tucumán, has been arrested in Villa Pineral, Tres de Febrero. The arrest follows an incident at a police surveillance post where Cirigliano allegedly engaged in a physical struggle with an officer in an attempt to seize their service weapon.

Authorities have charged him with “Robo” (robbery) and “Atentado a la autoridad” (assault on authority). While reports vary on whether he fled the scene, the weapon was successfully recovered by police.

This is not Cirigliano's first legal issue; in 2022, he was detained for two months after allegedly attempting to enter a home while armed and firing shots. Following that incident, he was released due to a lack of merit. His professional football career included stints in Italy, Mexico, Chile, and most recently, playing for Stallion Laguna in the Philippines in 2024.
