Ex Ilva plant in Novi Ligure faces potential production shutdown

The future of the ex Ilva steel plant in Novi Ligure is facing a critical period. Following judicial decisions regarding the shutdown of the hot area, production at the facility may only continue until late October or early November.

Novi Ligure Mayor Rocchino Muliere has met with trade union representatives to discuss the precarious situation for the 550 workers involved. Muliere is calling on the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio, to convene a regional crisis meeting. The goal is to ensure that the Novi Ligure and Genoa plants are fully integrated into the national discussions currently focused on the Taranto plant, preventing the local site from being treated as a secondary issue.

Amidst this industrial uncertainty, local historians have also noted the centennial of the ‘Nuovo Circolo Ilva’, a social and recreational space established by the company in the 1920s, highlighting the long-standing social and industrial identity of the territory.
