Ex Ilva unions announce 24-hour national strike

Metalworkers' unions Fim, Fiom, and Uilm have announced a 24-hour national strike for Monday, October 12, across all Ex Ilva industrial sites and related sectors. The decision follows a meeting at Palazzo Chigi regarding the ongoing Ex Ilva dispute.

The unions expressed dissatisfaction with the government's focus, stating that discussions have centered almost exclusively on social safety nets and unemployment benefits rather than a concrete industrial relaunch. They argue there is no viable perspective for workers to return to their jobs.

Key demands from the unions include a comprehensive industrial plan focused on decarbonization, strategic national steel production, and the procurement of semi-finished products to reactivate cold and finishing lines in Taranto, Genoa, Novi Ligure, Racconigi, Marghera, and Milan. Additionally, they are calling for social measures such as early retirement, exit incentives, and compensation for health risks.
