Ex-Met officer Kuldip Singh jailed for insurance fraud
Kuldip Singh, a 42-year-old former Metropolitan Police officer, has been sentenced to four years and five months in prison for his involvement in a ‘crash for cash’ insurance fraud scheme. Singh pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court to multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit fraud, fraud by false representation, perverting the course of justice, and unauthorized computer access.
While serving as a police officer, Singh participated in a group that orchestrated pre-arranged vehicle collisions to extract fraudulent personal injury and vehicle damage compensation from insurance companies. The scheme also involved Singh making false claims regarding vehicles from his own car hire company. To facilitate the crimes, he fabricated police reports and obtained assistance from a colleague to log false entries.
Prosecutors from the Crown Prosecution Service stated that Singh’s actions represented a ‘sustained pattern of calculated dishonesty’ and a serious breach of public trust. In addition to his prison sentence, Singh has been disqualified from acting as a company director for five years. Four co-conspirators remain at large.
