Ex-police officer captured in San Martín after life sentence escape
Police in the San Martín region of Peru have captured Idubis Trujillano Bustamante, a 40-year-old former police sub-officer who had been a fugitive since August 2024. He was located in the locality of Cuñumbuza, in the Juanjuí district.
Trujillano Bustamante is serving a life sentence for the sexual abuse, pregnancy, and subsequent death of his 12-year-old daughter. He had escaped from the Lambayeque Regional Hospital in 2024 while under the custody of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) following a medical emergency.
The Ministry of the Interior had placed him on its ‘Most Wanted’ list, offering a reward of S/ 100,000 for information leading to his location. Following his arrest, authorities are processing his return to the penitentiary system to complete his sentence.
