Ex Selca bankruptcy trustee faces environmental disaster trial
A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, September 9, at the Brescia Court regarding the “Selca-3” case. The proceedings involve the bankruptcy trustee of the former Selca company in Berzo Demo, who faces charges of environmental disaster.
The prosecution has requested an eighteen-month prison sentence. Local authorities and the Lombardy Region have estimated the ecological damage to be worth millions of euros. The investigation focuses on the failure to implement emergency safety measures at the site between 2010 and 2022, which allegedly forced the municipality and the region to intervene at their own expense.
Regional Councilor Paola Pollini criticized the lack of accountability, noting that approximately 37,000 cubic meters of potentially hazardous materials remained unmanaged for twelve years, creating what has been described as an ecological bomb.
