EXA Infrastructure launches Barcelona-Bilbao terrestrial corridor

EXA Infrastructure has launched a new terrestrial route connecting Barcelona and Bilbao, establishing a strategic east-west corridor across Spain. This connection is designed to link Mediterranean traffic—originating from North Africa, the Middle East, and Asia—directly to Atlantic cable systems and North American networks.

The new route provides a more resilient and direct path for hyperscalers, content operators, and AI platforms by diversifying available transit routes through the country. By linking the Mediterranean and Atlantic coasts, Barcelona transitions from a primary landing station to a redistribution hub.

The route also passes through the Zaragoza region, which is emerging as a significant European hub for hyperscale and AI data centers. Due to investments from companies such as AWS, Microsoft, and QTS, the Aragon region is projected to reach a data center capacity exceeding 1.6 GW by 2030.
