Excelerate Energy FSRU resumes gas supply in Bangladesh

The Excelerate Energy floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU) at Maheshkhali has resumed gas supply to the national grid following a three-day shutdown. The resumption began at approximately 2:00 pm on Saturday after a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo arrived ahead of schedule.

Petrobangla Chairman Abdul Mannan reported that the Excelerate terminal is currently supplying around 100 million cubic feet of gas per day (mmcfd). This has increased the total LNG-based supply to approximately 686 mmcfd, with expectations that an additional 300 mmcfd could be added to the grid by late Saturday night. The country’s overall gas supply has reached roughly 2,300 mmcfd.

The shutdown was caused by a lack of available LNG cargo, following a previous operational suspension after a fire on July 21. While the arrival of the new vessel provides immediate relief, officials noted that the broader gas crisis may take several days to fully ease as domestic production has been declining for nearly a decade.
