Excessive coffee consumption poses cardiovascular risks

Consuming excessive amounts of coffee, such as 10 cups per day, can pose significant risks to cardiovascular health. While moderate consumption of 2-3 cups daily may offer benefits like improved focus and a slightly reduced risk of stroke or heart failure, high caffeine intake can lead to rapid heartbeat and increased blood pressure.

Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang of the Vietnam Society of Underwater and Hyperbaric Medicine notes that healthy adults should generally not exceed 400 mg of caffeine per day. A single cup of Robusta coffee can contain between 100-150 mg of caffeine; therefore, drinking 10 cups could result in an intake of 1,000-1,500 mg, far exceeding recommended limits.

For individuals with existing atherosclerosis or coronary artery stenosis, these sudden physiological changes can trigger angina or even myocardial infarction. Additionally, unfiltered coffee contains compounds like cafestol and kahweol, which may increase LDL cholesterol levels and contribute to plaque formation in the arteries.
