Excessive sweating may indicate underlying medical conditions

While sweating is a natural way for the body to regulate temperature, excessive or abnormal sweating can signal underlying medical conditions. While factors like stress, lack of sleep, diet, and weather can increase perspiration, persistent or recurring sweating should be evaluated by a medical professional.

Key conditions associated with excessive sweating include:

Hyperthyroidism: An overactive thyroid increases metabolism and heat production, leading to sweating even when not in hot environments. Other symptoms may include rapid heartbeat, weight loss, anxiety, and tremors.

Hypoglycemia: Low blood sugar can trigger a protective hormonal response that causes sudden sweating, often accompanied by cold extremities, dizziness, shakiness, and weakness.

Tuberculosis: This infection is specifically noted for causing abnormal sweating, particularly during the night.
