Exchange for Change releases certified RVM list for 2027 deposit scheme

Exchange for Change Deposit Return Scheme reverse vending machines retailer grants recycling technology

Exchange for Change (EfC) has published its initial list of certified reverse vending machines (RVMs) to assist retailers in preparing for the launch of the Deposit Return Scheme (DRS) on October 1, 2027.

Seven manufacturers have been included in the first round of certifications, which were conducted by an independent specialist provider. The certification process assessed 77 separate requirements, including container identification, fraud prevention, system connectivity, accessibility, and secure transaction data handling. The list will be updated continuously as more machines undergo testing.

To support the rollout, EfC has also released RVM Artwork Guidance to ensure consistent branding and consumer instructions across return points. Additionally, retailers may be eligible for grants of £6,000 for up to 10,000 qualifying sites when purchasing machines from the approved list.
