Executive health at risk due to performance target pressure
Lawyer Giovana Atarasi Jurca, founder of Atarasi Jurca Advocacia, warns that increasing pressure to meet high performance targets can jeopardize the health of corporate executives. She notes that while companies increasingly use sophisticated incentives like bonuses, profit-sharing (PLR), stock options, and retention awards to motivate leadership, these methods can mask significant risks.
Jurca highlights several red flags, including the substitution of base salary increases with variable compensation, which can reduce the calculation base for other benefits. She also points to a lack of transparency regarding incentive rules and the absence of clear performance criteria. Furthermore, she notes that when the pursuit of productivity and profit compromises worker health, it shifts from a human resources issue to a matter of employer responsibility.
