Exercise Boosts Brain Health and Extends Lifespan, Studies Show
Recent research highlights exercise as a powerful tool for brain health. Studies reported in Mexico note that physical activity stimulates neurotrophins, enhances blood flow, and helps clear toxic proteins such as beta‑amyloid, potentially lowering Alzheimer risk. A Rutgers study found that exercise increases insulin sensitivity in the brain, supporting metabolic health and cognitive resilience.
A complementary long‑term study in the United States followed more than 147,000 adults for nearly three decades. Participants who performed 90–120 minutes of resistance training per week, especially when combined with regular aerobic activity, experienced the lowest risk of death. The findings underscore the role of muscle strength in preserving mobility, preventing sarcopenia, and improving overall longevity.
