Exercises to improve posture and prevent digital hunchback
Prolonged periods of sitting, computer use, or looking down at mobile devices can lead to chronic back strain, neck tension, and a condition often referred to as “digital hunchback” or hyperkyphosis. To combat these issues, experts suggest dedicating 10 to 15 minutes daily to specific mobility and strengthening exercises.
Key recommended movements include cervical retraction (the “double chin” exercise) to realign the head with the shoulders, and scapular retractions to stabilize the shoulder blades. Stretching the pectoral muscles using a doorway or wall can help counteract the tendency to round the shoulders forward. Other effective exercises include thoracic extension using a foam roller or towel, and the “Superman” exercise performed on the floor to strengthen the muscles supporting the spine.
