Exeter City eyes squad rebuild as injured midfielder returns

Exeter City’s 21‑year‑old midfielder Pedro Elawar has returned to training after a 15‑month lay‑off caused by a meniscus tear and multiple surgeries. The player, who changed his shirt name from Pedro Borges to Elawar to honour his family, said he is “still not where I want to be physically” but is grateful for the club’s support.

Manager Matt Taylor said the club’s transfer activity will be dictated by financial constraints. While several players have joined the Grecians on free contracts, a number of others have departed after their contracts expired. Taylor noted that without departures or cheap loan deals, adding further signings will be difficult, and the squad will likely rely on available loan opportunities and trialists as the season progresses.
