Exeter taxi driver ordered to repay £63,000 for Covid loan fraud
Murat Dogantekin, a 52-year-old taxi driver from Exeter, has been ordered by Exeter Crown Court to repay £63,790 following his exploitation of the Covid-19 Bounce Back Loan scheme. The confiscation order follows his imprisonment in February 2025 for securing £100,000 in fraudulent loans.
Investigations by the Insolvency Service revealed that Dogantekin inflated his taxi business turnover by more than £350,000 to obtain two maximum-allowable loans of £50,000 each in 2020. He used the funds to purchase a flat in Turkey and a pizza oven.
Dogantekin has three months to repay the funds. Failure to comply could result in an additional five years in prison, though the requirement to repay the full amount would remain.
