Exit 8 live-action film to make terrestrial TV debut
The live-action film adaptation of the hit indie game ‘Exit 8’ (8番出口) is making its terrestrial television debut on Nippon TV’s ‘Friday Roadshow’ on August 28. The broadcast will feature the full film without cuts.
Directed and written by Genki Kawamura, the film is based on the walking simulator game created by KOTAKE CREATE, which surpassed 1.4 million downloads worldwide. The story follows a man, played by Kazunari Ninomiya, who finds himself trapped in a looping underground passage. To escape, he must follow strict rules: do not miss any ‘anomalies,’ turn back immediately if an anomaly is found, and proceed only if no anomalies are present to reach ‘Exit 8.’
The film expands on the original game’s minimalist concept by introducing original characters, including a woman played by Nana Komatsu, and adding psychological drama and suspense regarding why the protagonist is trapped in this space. The production aims to replicate the eerie atmosphere of the game’s white underground corridors and its iconic ‘walking man’ character.
