Exit-CVD project launches to combat cardiovascular disease in Europe
The Exit-CVD research project has officially launched, aiming to prevent, reverse, and slow the progression of cardiovascular diseases. Co-funded by the European Union’s Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) and industry partners, the five-year initiative is led by Philips and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG).
The project will conduct 22 clinical trials involving more than 14,000 patients across various European countries. These studies will evaluate solutions ranging from early detection via digital monitoring to personalized risk assessments and advanced therapies for late-stage patients.
Dr. Pim van der Harst, project coordinator and head of Cardiology at UMCG, stated that the goal is a future where heart disease is no longer an irreversible path. The initiative seeks to integrate biological and social factors with digital diagnostic tools to empower both patients and healthcare professionals.
