Exotic fruits in Japan spark social media interest
Unique and unusual fruits have recently gained social media attention in Japan due to their striking appearances.
In Kagoshima Prefecture, a producer named Yumisashi Engei shared photos of bright pink fruits growing from a thornless cereus cactus. While some users questioned if the fruit was edible, the producer confirmed that the ripe, large red fruits are sweet and tasty, bearing a resemblance to dragon fruit.
Meanwhile, the Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium’s Tropical Dream Center showcased the Kegaki fruit. Resembling a persimmon but covered in fine, velvety hair, the fruit is native to Southeast Asia. The aquarium noted that while the exterior is fuzzy, the creamy white flesh is sweet and can be used in jams or traditional salads.
