Expand Energy to buy Twin Eagle for $1.25 billion, expanding U.S. gas marketing

Expand Energy Corporation announced a $1.25 billion acquisition of privately held natural‑gas marketer Twin Eagle Holdings. The deal, expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, will make Twin Eagle a wholly‑owned subsidiary and is projected to add about $750 million of incremental free cash flow each year, a 50 % increase over prior targets. Post‑acquisition, the combined firm will market roughly 14 billion cubic feet of gas per day and is expected to cover about 90 % of the U.S. and Canadian natural‑gas markets.

In its second‑quarter 2026 earnings release, Expand Energy reported earnings per share of $1.33, beating analysts’ consensus of $1.13 by $0.20, while revenue of $2.96 billion fell short of the $3.05 billion estimate. The company said it will fund the Twin Eagle purchase with cash on hand and borrowings under its revolving credit facility.

Earlier, the company posted first‑quarter 2026 results showing net cash from operations of $2.402 billion, net income of $1.159 billion and a reduction of total debt to $5.0 billion, after a $1.3 billion senior‑note redemption. Executive Mike Wichterich emphasized the strategic importance of expanding natural‑gas supply and market reach.
