Expedia Group reorganizes technology teams to focus on AI

Expedia Group is restructuring its technology and product divisions to focus on artificial intelligence. As part of this reorganization, the company has parted ways with at least eight executives, including Vice Presidents and Senior Vice Presidents such as Sachin Singh, Senior Vice President for Book-to-Trip Technology.

In an internal memo, Chief Product Officer Shilpa Ranganathan and Chief Technology Officer Ramana Thumu stated that the rapid advancement of AI has fundamentally changed what is possible, noting that tasks that previously took weeks can now be completed in hours. The company aims to create smaller, more agile, and fully functional teams to better align resources with business priorities.

Under the new structure, data, AI, and agentic platforms will be consolidated under Chief Data and AI Officer Xavier Amatriain. Additionally, Rick Fast has transitioned to the role of Chief Architect. While the leadership changes involve several high-level departures, the company indicated that much of the restructuring involves shifting responsibilities and reporting lines rather than simple staff reductions.
