Expedia report reveals optimal flight booking windows

An analysis of airline pricing data reveals that booking domestic flights one to three months in advance can save travelers approximately 25 percent compared to last-minute bookings. This finding comes from Expedia’s 2025 Air Hacks Report, which utilized billions of data points in collaboration with the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC) and OAG.

The report highlights that traditional travel myths, such as booking on Tuesdays, have been rendered obsolete by continuous algorithmic pricing. Modern airline systems use machine learning to ingest competitor fares, seat inventory, and booking velocity to reprice routes in real time, often dozens of times per day.

While some travelers believe using incognito mode prevents price hikes due to cookies, experts suggest focusing instead on comparing different dates, airports, and airlines to find the best value.
