The substance, developed by Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, was imported to Brazil under a compassionate use authorization granted by Anvisa.

The medication arrived at Guarulhos International Airport via a flight from New York. Due to the substance’s rapid loss of therapeutic potential over time, a coordinated operation between the Federal Revenue, Anvisa, and the Federal Police ensured customs clearance was completed within minutes. The cargo was then transferred directly to a helicopter to be transported to the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein in São Paulo.

Lito Sousa is expected to be the first person in the world to receive this specific compound for the treatment of prion diseases, as the drug is currently in the pre-clinical stage and has not yet undergone formal human clinical trials for this condition. His wife, Mila Seidl, reported that the administration occurred without immediate adverse reactions and that his condition remains stable in the ICU, though medical teams will monitor his progress closely over the next six weeks to evaluate the drug's efficacy.
