Experimental peptides face regulatory scrutiny and WADA bans
Experimental peptides, such as BPC-157 and TB-500, have gained popularity in fitness and wellness circles as part of the “Wolverine Stack” to accelerate muscle recovery and tissue healing. Despite their use among athletes and biohackers, these substances lack extensive human clinical trials to confirm long-term safety.
The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited these substances in 2022, banning them for professional competitors. However, a large unregulated grey market exists where online vendors sell these compounds for “research purposes” to bypass legal restrictions, allowing consumers to purchase self-injectable substances without clinical oversight or purity guarantees.
Regulatory scrutiny remains high. An FDA advisory panel recently voted against recommendations to loosen restrictions on six popular peptides. Experts warn that changes in regulation could inadvertently increase the distribution of incorrectly synthesized drugs from unsanctioned suppliers.
