Expert advice on infant nutrition and breastfeeding
Nutrition specialist Angelyn Alvarado Camilo has emphasized the critical role of breastfeeding for premature infants. Speaking on the program “Hablando de Salud,” Alvarado Camilo noted that breastfeeding is essential for the development of premature babies, who require specialized care to reach maturity.
She highlighted that maternal mental health, adequate rest, nutrition, and family support are vital factors that influence lactation. Alvarado Camilo advised mothers concerned about milk production to evaluate their physical and emotional conditions before turning to infant formulas. She also addressed misconceptions regarding physical anatomy, stating that certain breast characteristics do not necessarily prevent successful breastfeeding.
In a separate nutritional context, guidance for complementary feeding suggests introducing diverse textures and flavors to infants around six months of age. For example, a vegetable pizza recipe using oat flour, cooked zucchini, and salt-free tomato can be adapted to meet a baby's developmental needs, provided parents monitor for potential allergic reactions to new ingredients.
